Discuss the effective use of teams in an organization. According to your textbook (Ch.8), what are some criteria that organizations can apply to determine with participation in a team is likely to be effective?
The use of teams in organizations makes it easier for organizations to achieve their objectives and goals. When employees work in teams, a framework that increases the ability to participate in problem-solving, planning, and decision-making is established. Operational efficiency is improved, making it easier to achieve set goals. Teams also give organizations the ability to achieve complex tasks that individual employees cannot accomplish. Through teams, employees pool ideas and work together to accomplish complex tasks. teams can be tested to determine their effectiveness. They can be assigned tasks to determine their effectiveness and performance. If a team passes this test, then the team is effective. If it fails, the reasons for failure can be addressed to improve team effectiveness.

While working for a sales company earlier, I was involved in some work teams. The strategy of the company was to group employees in teams under supervisors. Each team had set goals and objectives developed by the supervisor in consultation with the management and team members. The teams were successful and resulted in the development of good relationships between team members and between the employees and management. A criterion that was used to measure team effectiveness was the delegation of test tasks to teams by management. The management would set a target number of sales that each team was expected to meet. This was a way of testing the effectiveness levels of different teams. Another criterion used was the assessment of effective communication within teams.

Effective teams enable organizations to improve efficiency and increased productivity. They make the achievement of targets and goals easier as employees work together and contribute ideas to complete assigned tasks. The measurement of team effectiveness provides management with information on what needs to be done to ensure highly effective work teams are developed.
