Yes, these are common statements that women hear in their lives. I am almost sure every woman has heard all these things from a man either in the office, workplace, or school. Some of the beliefs that are instilled by these statements include minimizing women to their beauty. They make a woman feel like they are where they are because they are pretty. They also make women feel like they need to make themselves small, especially where men are involved. They also make women feel like there are things they cannot do. The statements are limiting to the woman. They minimize the ability of the woman to do some things while, in reality, there are no boundaries to the achievements of a woman. Examples of the statements include; you drink whisky? It makes one wonder why this person is acting surprised a woman drinks whisky.  Another one is you eat a lot for a girl. How much is a girl supposed to eat? This statement is limiting the woman from enjoying food.

Yes, these are statements that men hear all the time. The statements are troublesome and also disruptive. They limit the man not to do some things even though the man wants to. They are also pressuring the man in a certain direction or to do certain things because he is a man. The statements are most destructive to the man and the expectations of society. There is nothing wrong with a man wearing pink. If a man thinks pink looks good on him, then do not make him feel bad about his choice of dressing. The behavior is limiting and wrong.  The language is also disruptive because it is objectifying a woman example, are you a boobs man or an ass man? Hit it and quit it. These statements are disruptive as they encourage men to use women.

The language in these statements affects the people who hear it negatively. A small boy who is told that boys do not cry will repress his feelings, which will affect him in the future. The repressed feelings might lead to destructive behavior in the future. A woman who is told not to be too bossy will be forced not to walk with her head held high because someone told her not to. This encourages the woman to feel limited and not attain her full potential.  I have heard many of these statements, and mostly they made me furious. I was mad and also felt bad that society keeps diminishing and limiting people from being their authentic selves.

Troublesome language is something that is meant to be funny from the outside but can also result in a lot of trouble. An example includes slang and jargon. The use of slang and jargon can be okay and funny when one is with peers but troublesome at work. An example is if a young man calls a young lady a babe. This doesn’t seem right and will land him in trouble with human resources. Another type of troublesome language so the use of relative words. Disruptive language is a language that grabs attention and not in the right way. Disruptive language is mostly found on social media. An example of a disruptive statement is nobody predicted that she would have done that because nobody knew she was insane. Another one is you forget to buy your wife a birthday gift you blame her for not reminding you; she burns down the house.
