When students fail to complete academic processes at the right time, they will likely experience lower quality work, engage in academic misconduct, and attain poor grades.

Effects of Procrastination on Academic Performance

Procrastination leads to lower quality academic work. The delay of academic work until the last minute hampers positive results attainment (Naturil-Alfonso et al., 2018). When learners do not complete academic tasks on time, they expose themselves to poor quality work. They are likely to handle it hurriedly to beat the deadline. This means a lack of crucial focus on homework and other important coursework elements. They generate substandard work that can significantly affect their outcomes. Notably, this practice makes students prone to academic misconduct. For instance, if a student does not handle and complete homework on time, they are more likely to engage in a harmful practice like cheating. They can use their peers’ completed work to replicate answers. If educators find out about such harmful deeds, they can initiate strict measures that affect their scores and grades. Also, failing to submit assignments on time can affect students’ grades (Jones & Blankenship, 2021). The deadline lapse attracts adverse outcomes like grade reduction. Lastly, procrastination leads to poor grades at large. Students who procrastinate are less likely to achieve the targeted academic outcomes due to a lack of commitment.
