Two reply posts are due by Sunday at 11:55PM (EST)*
Review other students’ posts before deciding what and where to structure reply posts. Students must post a minimum of 2 replies that must be unique to other students. Replies should build upon the original discussion thread (and other replies posted prior) with further details on lesson concepts, additional research, business examples, etc.
Replies require short essays and must contain a minimum of 100 words each. Replies must be constructive which means they do not simply state agreement or disagreement re-highlighting points already made in prior posts. Replies must offer additional information or input to the discussion and lesson concepts.

Ethics Conflict in International Business
Ethical conflict arises after an employee’s disposition does not match the organization’s beliefs, thus leading to negative consequences such as lack of organizational commitment, stress, turnover and absenteeism (Jamnik, 2017). Most likely, ethical conflicts arise due to a crash between wide-ranging belief systems about justice, moral values and standards and personal positions. In General, in an international business, ethical conflict results from someone acting in a way that ignores the ethics and opinions of other people. International companies engage in unethical practices that lead to ethical conflict due to the competitive advantages they gain from such activities. Some common ethical conflicts in international businesses include corruption, employment practices, human rights and environmental pollution. Corruption is among unethical practices that lead to ethical conflicts among employees in global businesses.
French Oil Giant Total S.A was charged $398 million due to disgorgement and fines for corrupting an Iran official to allow them to obtain access to gas and oil field (Sáenz, 2015). The corruption acts resulted in financial damage to the company and the business’s reputation, leading to low business opportunities. The financial losses damaged the employees’ morale, thus affecting employee productivity. The corrupt acts of the French Oil Giant Total violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which prohibits the payment of bribes to any foreign official to assist the company in retaining or obtaining business. The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act states that it’s unlawful for any person or company to pay or offer a promise to make payments to receive something of value to any overseas official. The main aim of the bribe was for the company to get help from an Iranian government official who would use their power to help the company gain significant contracts to develop the gas and oil business in Iran. The company had already gained more than $150 million in profits through the bribery scheme.
To prevent corruption in international business, companies need to adopt anti-corruption policies. The emphasis on anti-corruption policies remains relevant even in the most responsible global business. The procedures and policies created, implemented and enforced serve various purposes in an organization. They can mitigate penalties and liabilities for the company if someone within the company is involved in a corruption scandal (Khan, Andreoni and Roy, 2019). They can help eliminate corruption within the company through internal controls and educate the employees on the best practices and the prohibited and accepted actions.
The anti-corruption policies communicate the company’s and the worker’s responsibility to the employees. The company must clarify to the employees that it contains a zero-tolerance policy for corruption to eliminate ethical conflicts. Additionally, it’s relevant to have anti-corruption procedures that have been put in place to eliminate corruption. Detailing the policies to the employees is not enough. Putting processes in place helps catch and prevent corruption within the company.
Corruption entails taking advantage or acquiring by immoral, unacceptable means and not in line with the rights and obligations of others. Bribery is a widely practised form of corruption in global business. International businesses typically consider engaging in corruption, such as paying bribes to assist in obtaining, maintaining and directing business. There are several issues linked to business bribery. First, it’s illegal to engage in corruption since many countries have laws preventing government officials from bribery. Therefore, a company taking part in corruption exposes its directors, managers and workers to legal risks. Relatively, corruption affects business operations right from contracts and licenses to lawsuits. Corruption means that a business deals through hidden prices, unfair competition and collaborations chosen for success rather than value.
