The Media are Biased

The media holds a significant part in communicating to people what is happening and contribute significantly to the way people interpret and understand messages. The problem with the media currently is that it has been biased, which means that specific media networks have a particular inclination and tendency towards something or someone. Media bias is considered as the perceived prejudice of newsmakers in the choice of stories or events in how they are reported.

Media racial bias in crime reporting has been recorded in criminal news reporting within the United States with regards to the African Americans. This is linked to the historical racism for African Americans, which consists of the ambition, beliefs, and stereotypical characteristics of African Americans. During the early stages in the development of media, the African Americans struggled to represent their own opinions, beliefs, stories, and identities since the whites controlled the media in the United States and chose what images or characters the black people portrayed.

This claim focus on the media racial bias on African Americans. The media has characterized African Americans as aggressive and violent revealing persistent racial prejudice. This has led to the perpetuation and constructions of these perceptions, which have disproportionately depicted the ethnic and racial minorities as criminal suspects. Empirical evidence indicates that media exposure has provoked prejudicial responses since the criminal news in most media shows African Americans as criminal suspects or victims.

Most studies have shown that the media has disproportionately depicted African Americans as criminals, while the Americans as victims. The sample population for this claim is the African American Males who have a distorted portrayal of the media. The media has over-represented black males in crime and violence and underreported essential dimensions of black males such as work and fatherhood. The media deceptions and strong symbolic messages have led to negative attitudes towards African-American males. The media portrayals have played a significant role in sustaining and creating stereotypes of black men as dangerous and criminal. The informational and visual content of black criminals has led to an indirect consequence of biased media reporting.
