Frankenstein Critical Analysis Evaluation
ANSWER
Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus (1918) is a novel by Mary Shelley an English author. The story is about Victor Frankenstein, a scientist who creates a creature in an experiment considered unorthodox. This Essay focuses on what critics have written about the novel.
Sherry Ginn (2003) has written a critic of Frankenstein. She is an author and professor at Wingate University North Carolina and applies her experience and knowledge of literature to critic the novel. The thesis of her critic is that the novel is a science fiction novel and proves this using various scientific methods applied all across the book rather than the common and popular idea that the book is merely a process of the discovery of life and death. I agree with Sherry to some level, considering Victor uses science to bring the monster to life, however, the novel is more than science fiction. It is more about the social bit of humanity, how we need to feel loved and accepted.
Naomi Hetherington (1997) has also written a critic of Frankenstein. She is an author and professor at the University of Sheffield under the Institute of Lifelong Learning. The thesis of the critic is founded on the idea that human beings do not have the capability of recreation as evident with Victor’s terrible failure to make his monster a more fulfilled human. I agree with Naomi’s sentiments having read the novel and observed the monster’s struggles to fit in constantly failing and getting devastated about it.
Both these authors examine the novel in different perspectives but draw important conclusions about both the author and the characters. However, Naomi’s version is more convincing than Sherry’s.
