It is well-established that culture plays a significant role in shaping gender roles and expectations consciously and subconsciously. In many cultures, women are expected to take on a more submissive role in relationships, both personal and professional. They may be discouraged from pursuing leadership positions or speaking up in meetings. In contrast, men are often expected to be the breadwinners and head of the household. They may be expected to take charge and make decisions on behalf of the family or business.

Culture also shapes ideas about what is appropriate behavior for men and women. Cultural norms around gender can also impact the way people interact with others. For example, in many cultures it is considered more appropriate for women to be polite and reserved, while men are expected to be more assertive. This can lead to misunderstandings and conflict when people from different cultures interact.

Cultural diversity can also have an impact on gender differences. For example, women in many cultures are often expected to take on more domestic responsibilities, such as childcare and housework. This can impact their ability to advance their careers. In some cultures, women are not allowed to work outside the home, or they may be expected to dress and behave in a certain way. This can limit their opportunities and lead to discrimination. Despite the increased effort aimed at boosting equality, women have remained underrepresented in the most high-level positions in the society and workplaces. For instance, the labor participation of women in the United States is under 47 percent as compared to men which is above 72 percent (Chuanchuan and Jingwen, 2021). Overall, culture and cultural diversity plays significant roles in shaping gender differences. It is important to be aware of these differences when interacting with people from other cultures.
