Graded Assignment
Moving Toward Change
(50 points)
Think about the women who grew up in the 1960s. What do you think they are telling their granddaughters about the changes they experienced? Use the textbook and the information that you discovered on the websites to review the events of the second wave of the women’s movement in one of the following areas: education, work, family life, politics, or sports.
Then write a letter to “your” granddaughter explaining how the roles of women changed in that area during the 1960s and 1970s and explain how those roles have continued to change since then.
Your letter should be at least two pages and include information from 1960s through the present time. Consider interviewing a family member or friend who might be able to share a perspective with you. Remember to describe what life was like and what you hope it will be like for your granddaughter. This is a graded assignment.

ANSWER
Moving Toward Change
Dear Granddaughter,
The 1960s was a decade that encompassed some of my worst and best events at a young age. At this time, we saw assassinations, men walking on the moon, the civil rights war, segregation, the Beatless and the rolling stones, among many other happenings. It was a tough time to live in the United States due to multiple challenges as a woman. However, there were profound cultural changes that altered the role of women in American society.
In the 1960s, more females entered the workforce after years of not get permitted to work at all in some fields. There were nevertheless high disparities in terms of women’s wages, which caused a lot of dissatisfaction. There were multiple cases of sexual harassment towards women, wherein most times, the cases went unreported without anyone bothering to take action. At this period, women could get fired just because of getting pregnant. They also could not open a bank account unless the husband cosigned it for them. To make matters worse, even after attaining doing well in exams, a woman would not attend a school like Princeton or Harvard since women were not permitted to attend Ivy League schools. It was not until 1965 that a woman could be allowed to vote, which is also another evidence of inequality.
The 21st century has hence seen multiple significant positive changes towards the attitudes towards women. This is since a woman can do all that was restricted without worrying about the rules and regulations in place. Currently, women can hold bank accounts and can attend Ivy league schools and vote and vie for any position they desire in the country. Currently, the United States vice president is a woman from minority communities, which is proof of the country’s progress over the years. However, more needs to be done to close the country’s inequality gap and ensure that women are more empowered to be excel in the society.
