Paris Climate Action Plan

Paris, France, is among the world cities with an action plan towards environmental conservation. In particular, Paris plans to reduce the city’s carbon footprint drastically according to the year 2018 adoption by the City Council. With this goal, the city aspires to reduce global warming to 1.5⁰C. By the year 2050, the action plan lays out strategies to achieve complete carbon neutrality. Most significant is the objective to deal with climate change through control on the emissions produced in the city; the plan also considers emissions that spring from goods and services consumed by the city. Compared to the level of emissions in 2004, the city targets to reduce 25% of emissions by the end of this year and 50% by the year 2030. Additional to this objective is a reduction in consumption by 35% and increasing the city’s reliance on renewable energy by 45%. Finally, by 2050, the city aims to be free from emissions and completely reliant on renewable energy.

The reason carbon emissions is of key importance to Paris and any other city in the world that targets to reduce the phenomenon of climate change is that it is the leading course of global warming. Global warming is the constant rise of the average temperature of the Earth’s climate system, and it is something that has been an issue for ongoing years. Some effects of global warming on the Earth are melting of glaciers, rising sea levels, and has an effect on our weather conditions as well. Global warming results in tropical storms becoming more violent and increases the chances of wildfires due to extreme heat and, therefore, immediate concern.
