Were you on the critical path?
Additionally, explain the role the project manager played in managing the project’s success or failure. Include an example
ANSWER
The most complex project I completed was at the college level, which consisted of designing, evaluating and creating a hotel management system. This project took approximately three months of research, picking the best prototypes, testing and modifying the design. It was a privilege to have engaged in creating a working and effective systems in the hospitality industry. This was one of the biggest projects I have accomplished despite its complexity.
Work Breakdown Structure
Work breakdown structure can be hard and confusing to comprehend more so for new project managers. The process is a hierarchical decomposition of the entire scope of the work to be accomplished by the project team to fulfill the objectives and create the needed deliverables. It defines and organizes the project’s entire scope and represents the duty specified in the existing approved project scope statement.
Tasks
This is achieved through a set of deadline and should contribute to work-related intentions. Like project management, tasks can be segmented into subtasks that also have a clear beginning and end dates of completion. With this objective, creating a hotel management system that is client-centric is possible. In such a situation, project management must also be informed about all procedures associated with the system’s development. This is essential in the planning phase of the project.
Subtasks
Under the planning phase, the subtask engaged the project management team, creating a scope statement, designing a schedule, developing a budget, creating a safety plan and forming course logistics plans. Several people find these subtasks a great way to organize complex and large projects (Zolnikov, 2018). Through breaking down a difficult project into more manageable sections, project managers feel empowered and confident to complete the task.
Work Package and Critical Path
This is a group of linked tasks within a project, and since they are similar to the projects themselves, they have normally considered sub-projects within a bigger project. Work packages are the smallest unit of work that any project can be divided into when designing the work breakdown structure. My project was on a critical path which was essential in calculating the early start, early finish, late start, and late finishing dates for the entire operation without any limitations. Lastly, the project manager played an important role in completing this project; for instance, he ensured all the tasks were completed effectively.
