Nursing and Communication
Nurses are expected to be culturally sensitive when addressing patients with different cultural backgrounds. Communication plays an essential role in providing care, and nurses have to be aware of how they are expected to address and approach their patients. In this case of a Hispanic patient, the nurse should modify her communication approach in a different way to suit the needs of the patient. For instance, to develop culturally competent care, the nurse should have a sense of awareness (Sharifi et al., 2019). Having a sense of awareness is the ability to understand the cultural environment where the nurse is working. This avoids cases of negligence and assumptions that all patients should be treated the same. For the nurse to develop a sense of awareness, they should familiarize themselves with the surrounding cultural environment and purpose to develop a sense of cultural sensitivity.
Nursing education in learning about other cultures is also a form of developing a culturally competent plan. Most nurses only look at the medical history of the patients and current symptoms (Brooks et al., 2019). However, this only forms half of the healthcare. The other half is understanding the background of the patient through family history, their day-to-day life, and most importantly, their culture.

There are various factors that influence nutritional practices in the United States. These include economic determinants like income level and cost of food, social determinants like culture, and biological determinants like appetite and preference in taste (Byker Shanks et al., 2016). The economic determinant can be changed to promote healthy eating and living in the United States. The government can raise the basic wages of the working citizens for them to afford healthy food. Foodstuff like lettuce, broccoli, and other expensive healthy products should be made affordable for everyone (Verstraeten et al., 2016).
