Since Texas achieved independence from Mexico in 1936, the constitution of 1876 is the sixth constitution to govern the state. Drafted by the Constitutional Convention of 1875 and adopted in 1875 by a majority vote, the constitution has been Texas’ basic organic law (Hancock& Leslie, 1). With the rise of population, the constitution Texas government has severally re-written its constitution as the legal structure under which the government operates.
