Mid-Life, Prime-of-Life, Your Life

Mid-life is the period between 40 and 60 years. This time is usually mostly occupied by rating children, getting married, raising through the ranks of one’s career, and mostly finding one’s purpose in life. However, how one navigates these life stages depends on other factors. It is dependent on socio-economic status and financial stability. It can also be dependent on the theories of human development. For example, if one did not successfully navigate through Erickson’s theory of psychosocial development industry vs. inferiority. If they are not successfully encouraged and commended by parents and guardians, they are not able to navigate midlife and may also not be able to exploit their abilities to be successful. In the prime of life, one struggles with integrity vs. despair (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019). This is also dependent on what they did in the prime of their life and whether or not they got the support, they needed to live a full life. Erickson’s psychosocial development stages are applicable in the different stages of life, and each stage is dependent on the previous stages and whether they navigated them successfully.
