Some of the key leadership competencies include effective communication. From the speech, the author says that the secret to company success is using conflict to identify the way forward; every business experiences conflict within the business. Instead of ignoring the conflict, it is important to identify the causes of the conflict, talk about it and look for a way forward. In a business, people have different ways of doing things (Inc.Africa). This means that communication is key to ensuring the success of the business. One of the best leadership competencies listed is supporting different opinions and points of view. As a leader, it is important to be open-minded and to listen to different opinions even when one feels like their way is the best way to solve a problem.

The leadership competencies such as accepting the opinions of others, learning about the team and embracing conflict, and looking for the source of conflict are some of the leadership competencies I experienced in my former working environment. It was one of the healthiest working environments such that I could not imagine that I was leaving for a new work environment. The manager always ensured that the conflict in the office was solved and that we charted a way forward. The manager also understood the team members and, thus, did things depending on our preferences. He was also open to being corrected and being shown new ways of doing things.

Communication is not only important in business; it is important in general life. Communication helps people understand each other, and in business today, people can talk about their feelings, uncover truths, discuss issues facing them, and work them out (Radovic Markovic & Salamzadeh, 2018). If business partners effectively communicate, they will never lose sight of the goal, and the business will thrive.
