The first and second wave of feminism entails the women’s liberation for movement for equal social and legal rights. Patricia Hill Collin’s work on black feminists is an engaging and marvelous account of the social construction of black feminists that was used to empower women in the first and second wave of feminism to eliminate class inequalities, race, and gender struggles. Patricia’s formulation of black feminist’s thoughts was essential in enabling women to achieve their basic rights which were major achievements in the first and second wave of feminism.

In the first and second wave of feminism, Patricia Hill was able to share her voice with that of other African American women offered a unique standpoint. She was able to explore various themes linked to family, work, oppression, and activism. Collins gently challenged feminist dominance and nurtured the appreciation of inclusion and diversity reflecting on class, race, and gender junctures. Patricia’s thoughts on black feminists altered the consciousness of individuals and acted as an ingredient of social change to black feminists in the first and second waves of feminism.

Black feminist thought fostered a fundamental shift in the experience of women and brought an understanding of the negative effects of racism, sexism, and class discrimination (Collins, 2002). Patricia believed that her formulation of black feminists thought would intervene feminism since the oppressed groups are only listened to when the ideas are put in a language that is comfortable and familiar to the dominant group.
