Influences of Personality Development

Personality is what makes an individual unique and is acknowledgeable after birth. Personalized development entails how the structured patterns of behavior that make up a person’s unique personality develop over time. Personality development enables an individual to have an impressive character that makes them unique from the rest. There are three main influences of personality that seem essential in the personality development process. These include; environment, heredity, and situation.

Heredity entails the influences of personality that one is born with. They are in the genes, which means there is not much one can change in these traits. Heredity of the genetic basis is a significant determinant of personality since the principles of character such as intelligence, physique, and temperament are largely reliant on an individual’s genetic endowment (Lengua, Gartstein, and Prinzie, 2019). Heredity is an essential influence of personality since it affects a person’s approach to the world and learning capabilities.

The environment is nurturing feature of our lives. The environment surrounding a person plays a great part in personality development. This is the setting in which individuals live and grow up. The environment comprises of school, home, work, and other surroundings that individuals spend most of their time. Life experiences, culture, and upbringing are some environmental factors that influence an individual’s personality. Ideally, a person’s character is a collection of emotional, cognitive, and behavioral patterns adopted from experiences (Costa, McCrae, and Löckenhoff, 2019). For instance, the teachings offered by parents, the relationship between different family members, and the parental behavior towards the child impact the personality traits development.

Situations are significant influences of personality since they are an individual’s experiences (Baumert et al., 2019). The various things and encounters that people go through helping them in developing their personality. These experiences determine a person’s feelings, perspectives, and actions. With time, the character continues to evolve through an individual’s experience.

In summation, personality development is greatly influenced by heredity, environment, and living situations experiences that help create an individual’s personality. The molding of personality is a complex process that depends on at least three main variables.
