ANSWER
Reducing Workplace Stress
Stress is a common occurrence in any workplace. It results from a wide variety of areas such as high expectations from the employer, long, tiring shifts depending on the area of work, and pressure (Holman et al., 2018). As a supervisor, it is important to identify when team members and prevent the stress from piling and getting out of hand. A supervisor can prevent stress in their unit by encouraging open communication. Most of the stress at work comes from employers having a negative relationship with the employer. Opening the communication lines ensures that the supervisor and members of the unit can openly talk about issues causing stress at work (Siu, 2017). For example, if the unit members feel the extra hours they are putting in are not being fairly compensated, they should be free to talk about it with the supervisor and find an amicable way to solve it.
A supervisor can also encourage employees to take breaks. Continuous work has damaging effects on the employees. As a supervisor, one should be able to identify employees who have been working non-stop and encourage them to take a break to prevent them from getting burned out. Work is important, but rest is more important. Rested employees are more productive, and therefore, supervisors should take it upon themselves to ensure that members of their unit are getting enough time off work to get the required rest. For example, if members of team B have been working night shifts for a week, they should exchange with their colleagues from team A. this is to ensure all members of the unit are getting enough rest, and they are also being treated fairly. It also gives them time to have fun with family and friends (Foy et al., 2019). The employees will be less stressed and happier by taking turns in shifts.
