ANSWER

Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is a disabling, appalling erythrogenic, and neurodegenerative disease affecting an individual’s central nervous system, including the spinal cord and the brain. The immune system in an MS patient attacks their myelin a safeguarding sheath or case covering nerve fibers, thus disrupting and causing communication problems of the brain and other body parts. It is prevalent in the USA, and even though it lacks a cure, various treatment options are presented to help in the speedy recovery, slowing down disease progression, and management of the symptoms (Dilokthornsakul, 2016). As explained above, MS affects the nervous system, as it is a nervous system disease, where the immune system attacks its tissue. Hence initiating a malfunction that results in destroying the myelin that coats, covers, and protects nerve fibers of the brain and spinal cord. The damaged sheath leaves the nerve endings exposed blocking or slowing messages and communications that travel from the brain to other body parts along that nerve ending. As the disease progresses, it causes an increased or permanent damage and deterioration of nerves. The damage disrupts the complex function of the nervous system to coordinate and send sensory information by signal transmissions.

Treatment options include drug treatments and therapies. These drug treatments are available to help in the speedy recovery, slowing down disease progression, and management of the symptoms. They include drugs for MS attacks, those that contribute to modify sequence such as injectable, oral, and infusion treatments. Finally, prominent MS therapies are mostly physical to help in muscle relaxation, reduce fatigue, and to increase walking speed. When analyzing whether it is possible to prevent the condition, this is subjective. One, the cause of MS is not determined and truly or universally agreed upon, as risk factors range from genetic factors, autoimmune diseases, lifestyle, race, and age. However, one can prevent the disease by ensuring they have sufficient intake of Vitamin D, as it acts as a preventive and therapeutic treatment option (Dörr, Döring, & Paul, 2013).
