Review your problem or issue and the study materials to formulate a PICOT question for your capstone project change proposal. A PICOT question starts with a designated patient population in a particular clinical area and identifies clinical problems or issues that arise from clinical care. The intervention used to address the problem must be a nursing practice intervention. Include a comparison of the nursing intervention to a patient population not currently receiving the nursing intervention, and specify the timeframe needed to implement the change process. Formulate a PICOT question using the PICOT format (provided in the assigned readings) that addresses the clinical nursing problem.
The PICOT question will provide a framework for your capstone project change proposal.
In a paper of 500-750 words, clearly identify the clinical problem and how it can result in a positive patient outcome.
Describe the problem in the PICOT question as it relates to the following:
Evidence-based solution
Nursing intervention
Patient care
Health care agency
Nursing practice

ANSWER
PICOT question
Can diversification of education eliminate the barriers and ensure that there is sufficient education in Los Angeles, California, on delivering quality patient care for older adults?
Evidence-based Solution
Improving the quality of education and diversification in the nursing practice ensures that the seniors in the community receive quality care. The seniors in the community are in the last stages of their lives and required to receive quality care and, in the end, have a dignified end of their lives. In the U.S, 43.5 million adult family caregivers care for someone 50 years or above, and 14.9 million others care for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. There are different forms of caregiving and caregivers available in the U.S. (Tao & McRoy, 2015). However, those receiving care from home can find themselves at a disadvantage, especially if they do not have the required resources to care for the patient. Diversification in education helps in giving the elderly at home basic care needed before they can get to the hospital. Diversification also ensures that the caregivers can use software systems that can be used to bridge the gap and help in monitoring the care for the seniors. Diversified and improved education will also ensure that the caregivers understand the seniors, improving the way they are treated and ensuring patient safety.
Nursing Interventions
It is the professional role of a nurse to ensure that the seniors within the nursing home or within the hospital are receiving quality care. One of the things one can do to ensure that they receive quality care is answering the call lights immediately. Prompt answering of call lights could reduce the risks of the patient falling off of the bed (Ganz & Latham, 2020). Another nursing intervention for nurses who provide home-based care for senior citizens is educating their families on the protocols required to provide the care. The nurse can teach the family their routine and also teach them how to track their health using tracking devices.
Patient Care
The elderly in LA are distributed all around, all receiving care from different nursing homes and others receiving home-based care. The seniors can benefit from programs such as health tracking devices, especially for the seniors receiving care from home. Those in hospitals can benefit from the nurses ensuring that the older adults are free from the risks of falls and the nurses have enough knowledge on how to treat them.
Health care Agency
Healthcare agencies include nursing homes and homes for the elderly. In this case, healthcare agencies will benefit from any additional information and education they get about caring for the elderly. With improved and diverse education, the older adults within the health care agencies will receive quality care. There will also be lesser risks involved in the last days of their lives. Older adults tend to get depressed due to their age, but with quality education, the nurses within the healthcare agencies will be able to provide quality care.
Nursing Practice
Providing education to the patient and the caregivers of the patient is one of the nurse’s duties. The caregivers who are not professionally trained to care for the elderly can significantly benefit from any information the nurses provide them about caring for the elderly. They can also guide them to any caregiving homes that offer quality care for the seniors within the community. Providing such information will help the family and the older adults receive quality care.
