Research in Nursing

Question 1:
provide 1 examples of experimental and non-experimental research design as it relates to nursing Contrast the levels of control applied to each.

Experimental research design applies a scientific approach in the manipulation of one or many control variables. It is a systematic, objective, and a controlled investigation to predict and prevent a phenomenon (Rogers & Revesz, 2020). It relates to nursing because the research is practically done to conclude on specific findings, making it accurate as the results have been done and observed from the beginning. The most common examples of experimental research designs include laboratory experiments. Non-experimental research design is a research work that does not manipulate independent variables.

Contrary to experimental research, this research design examines variables as they occur. The most common example of this design is a case study. It is relatable to nursing because it compares the already done surveys and researches and gives a nurse the best way to handle a particular situation.  Experimental research designs give convincing evidence as the findings are practically done and observed. Contrary to this, non-experimental does not interfere with changes in the independent variables.

Question 2

Describe sampling theory and provide 1 example to illustrate your definition. Discuss generalizability as it applies to nursing research.

Sampling theory examines the relationship between a specific population and the randomly picked potion of the given population. The sampling theory has a close link with the probability theory (Amab, 2017). It is so because they both require population knowledge about a specific population and draws from the random samples collected. A perfect example of this theory is when a researcher takes a group of type 32 diabetes patients and starts them on exercise to see if it can prevent or control the condition. Generalizability is the research conclusion or findings’ extension that a researcher makes from the sample during considerable population research. In diabetes patients trying exercise to see if it works in diabetes prevention, it actually may not work for some people. In the nursing field, sometimes the care providers generalize and give medications that work for certain people to help manage ailments.
