Week 6 Discussion: Organizational Change
Discuss the relationship between organizational change and the organization’s need to stay competitive in a global market.
Organizational change refers to various activities and processes that organizations undertake to strategically position themselves to meet organizational objectives, the demands of stakeholders, and adapt to changes in their environment (Benn et al., 2014). Organizational change is very important in the achievement of organizational success and growth in any industry. For any organization operating in the global market, remaining competitive involves changing from time to time to adapt to changes in the global market environment. The global market constantly changes as the needs of customers keep shifting from time to time. For an organization to keep up with such changes, organizational change is unavoidable. Through organizational change, an organization can keep up with changes in customer needs and new market challenges (Benn et al., 2014).
How much does this relationship drive change?
The quest to remain competitive in the global market is a major driver of organizational change. This is because the global market is constantly changing as new challenges, technologies, and changing customer needs emerge, forcing organizations to implement changes to better position themselves to cope with changes.
What other factors drive organizational change?
Other factors that drive organizational change include changes in the political and economic environment of an organization (Benn et al., 2014), changes in organizational management, global health issues such as the current COVID-19 pandemic, changes in the financial markets such as a global financial crisis, mergers and acquisitions, and changes in organizational direction.
