Religious Beliefs

The first amendment states that a person has the right to exercise their religious beliefs freely. According to the first amendment, the government cannot make any law respecting or prohibiting the free exercise of religion (Clarke, 2018). Religious beliefs are not harmful to people as long as they belong within the believers, but in this case, the religious beliefs are breaking the laws and biased against other groups, and such beliefs should not be protected. Religious beliefs should be practiced freely, but religions are subject to the law of the nation and should therefore follow the laws. If a religious belief does not follow the laws in the constitution, then that religion should not be protected by the government as no religion is above the constitution.

The first amendment on no law shall be made prohibiting the free exercise of religion is, however, not absolute as the Supreme Court placed some limits (Clarke, 2018). Religions that subscribe to human sacrifice are not allowed by laws set by the Supreme Court.  In this case, religious beliefs that are biased against other groups are spreading hate and the wrong message about other people. In this case, the government should not protect the religious beliefs.  The level of protection of religious beliefs by the government is unclear, but any religious beliefs that go against the law of the country and lead to the spread of hate, which can lead to violence, can be prohibited, and should not be protected by the government.
