ANSWER

The need for having more than two political parties

There is a need to have more than two political parties in the United States. This is since, once there are multiple parties, it will be easier to have an outlet for other parties that may belong to socialists, libertarians, and different types of conservatives different from the two parties (republicans and democrats).  When there are more than two political parties, it is easier for voters to have a wide range of choices where even without agreeing with the other parties can have  an option of a party with similar ideologies and future beliefs as the voter (Schmitt, 2016) . This can help subtly improve the country’s politics and help ensure more effective governance.

A two-political party system brings rigidity to politics, where people only choose to vote for just two parties. Each camp is always divided by region, race, cultural identity, and gender without identifying divergent ideologies and ways of governance and different ways of governing a nation. This hence limits the voters from supporting another party that could have been different and could change the forms of governance of the country (Schmitt, 2016).  A multi-party system is also vital in that it brings about creativity and new solutions that can help build new coalitions.

A multi-party system can ensure that no party as a majority votes and can provide divergent views on debates. Therefore, members of a different party can ensure that they present a different stand on an issue and ensure that quality laws that represent the people are enacted without having to depend on just two parties. Innovations such as instant run-off voting could also offer the new parties a stronger role in the governance, making the country a better democracy than it currently is.
