SCENARIO -03

 ANSWER

Guidance or Compliance

Introduction

Ethical codes help an individual to conduct themselves reasonably. However, these guidelines are not applicable in all situations and that, the individual suspected of these actions are liable to a breach or rules rather the guidelines. The BCBA codes establish the environment where every individual in the field is expected to display in their line of duty.

Scenario 01

The most pertinent code, in this case, is that, where behavior analyst engages in activities which are demeaning or harassing the client based on the difference in various factors like socioeconomic status. They should refrain from proving the services and seek consultations to ensure the capability of their operations or as well making suitable referrals to the top levels in the field (Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts).

For this case, considering a referral is the best solution to avoid any conflict of interest between the client, behavior analysts and other stakeholders in the field. Referring the client to the top management is the best option to avoid neglecting the rules and ensuring the client is centered on all the recommended therapies.

Scenario 02

The most pertinent code, in this case, was code 1.06 (a). This was due to the potentially destructive implications of numerous relationships. Moreover, code 2.0 states that behavior analysts should base their operations on their clients’ best, which could also be relevant to the situation. In brainstorming, the BACB code outlines that the behavior analysts should avoid this scenario and refers the family to another expert in the field (Association of Professional Behavior Analysts, 2017)

In evaluating the scenario, the behavior analyst is the only one around to help the family and that, referring them to another expert does not apply to him. He opts to help them regardless of the situation and the rules. One of the core principles, in this case, is effectively collaborating with other people in their best interest as they interact in the field (Rosenberg & Schwartz, 2018).

Scenario 03

In this case, the BCAB ethical code in play is that behavior analysts do not receive any gift from the family or present them with any gift as this will constitute multiple relationships (Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts). The BACB denies anyone operating in the field not to present any help besides the therapy to the family. This seems to be a brutal rule to adhere to as the low-income family is starving, and that; even the child cannot attend schooling. That is the only means of helping the family by presenting them with a meal before any therapy follows.

In conclusion, behavioral specialists are currently operating under a structure that views ethical behaviors as adherence to a set of rules and guidelines. It is believed that such method does not indeed encourage ethical behavior.
