Brief Summary
This article attempts to examine the relationship between anxiety, depression, social support, and academic performance. The study indicates a positive relationship between depression and academic performance. According to Bisson (2017), anxiety and depression are more prevalent among college students than the rest of the population. Many colleges and universities have adopted guidance and counseling programs meant to combat depression among students. Abilene Christian University created a program named Students Opportunities Resources and Advocacy (SOAR), meant to create an environment for students to discuss their challenges. There have been fewer cases of anxiety and depression since the introduction of SOAR on ACU; consequently, the student’s performance has greatly improved.
Relationship to the topic
My topic is depression in college students. This article directly relates to the topic since it discusses the connection between anxiety, depression, social support, and academic performance. My topic entails the prevalence of depression among college students, its consequences, and how to combat it. This article provides excellent suggestions such as having a solid support system to share one’s challenges and hardships, resulting in academic improvement.

This article entails a study conducted among students at Jimma University. According to the report, students with a history of a violent sexual partner were more prone to depression. Brief Summary
Academic stress and depression are significant causes of suicide and suicidal attempts among college students. The high prevalence of suicides among students puts pressure on parents, society, learning institutions, and the government. There is, therefore, the need to investigate factors that affect the students psychologically to help understand the thoughts leading to suicides and suicidal attempts. This study concludes that academic stress and depression are positively related. Further, female students are more prone to academic stress than males; consequently, they are the most depressed.

This article relates to my topic on depression among college students in that it discusses the relationship between academic stress and depression, showing a positive correlation. Additionally, it discusses the gender differences, concluding that the female students are more prone to academic stress and consequently becoming more depressed.

Brief Summary
This research explores different ways in which depression affects undergraduates’ research experiences. The findings indicate that depression affects among others student’s motivation, productivity, creativity, socialization, and concentration. Failure to acquire guidance from parents or the school makes the situation worse. The article also lays emphasis on having a social support system with whom to share one’s challenges. Being alone and having negative interactions can worsen the students’ interaction. However, having people to share with lessens the challenge, in addition to receiving guidance and counseling.
Relationship to the topic
This article does relate to the topic of depression among college students. It explores in detail how depression affects the students. Among the effects are affecting the student’s motivation, creativity, productivity, socialization, and concentration. These effects result in poor academic performance. However, the challenge can be combated by guidance and counseling and a strong support system.
