Psychology

You are to select one of the following movies or come up with another movie by the date of the midterm exam and email in your choice of movie to the instructor. You are to watch the movie in total and then you are to write an eight (8) page minimum APA style paper. You are to write a case study on one of the major characters in the movie.
Instructions:
Give a short synopsis of the movie
1. Give an initial diagnosis for this character in the movie
2. Then you must list what diagnoses one would need to rule out as one continues to work with this character as a client.
3. Then you must provide a tentative treatment plan utilizing Empirically Validated Treatment (EVT) or Evidence Based Best Practices (EBBP) if possible. You must be very precise and detailed in what the treatment would entail. You must talk about:
1. Type of treatment
2. Length of treatment
3. Specific methodology used in the treatment
4. Benefits of the EVT or EBBP for the client
5. Possible negative effects of the EVT or EBBP for the client
4. You then must talk about whether or not one would refer this client to a psychiatrist for psychopharmacological treatment. If referring to a psychiatrist for possible medication you would have to detail out what possible type of medication the psychiatrist might choose, the rationale for its utilization, and what would be the benefits and possible negative side effects of it for the client.
5. Lastly, if the movie character had been successful in getting the treatment outlined by you, how would the change in this character have affected the outcome of the story line in this movie?

  1. The Dream Team

The Dream Team is a movie that starts with a captivating ordeal where the psychiatrist takes his four patients on a trip to an inspirational trip baseball trip to inspire the sceneries in the surrounding. The four patients, to the surprise, were found wandering in the streets of New York without doing any meaningful thing in the streets of New York. The patients were not provided with anything meaningful to do before the beginning of the whole trip. The four characters in the movie were Billy, Henry, Jack and Albert; these four characters could not function properly. However, every one of the characters had a very instrumental character which was unique and systematic based on their condition (Barlow et al., 2016). The psychiatrist was Dennis Boutsikaris, handling all the four men, and his main intention was to take them out for a vacation to relieve them from their mental stress.

Billy was a violent, jazzed-up and fast-talking person; Henry was a more obsessive and professorial person. Jack was more messianic tendencies, and Albert was more introverted and did not talk with people. The Journey began all well until Albert developed the need to answer the call of nature. On his way to the gas station washroom, Albert committed a murder where he was rushed to the hospital, leaving the other patients on their own (Kearney & Trull 2016). The psychiatrist failed to understand that all the patients were suffering from unique and complicated infections making the patient very facile and dangerous to society.

  1. Diagnosis of the Four Patients

The four patients were suffering from unique things but the same condition. The main complication is the mental problem that affected the four patients. The psychiatrist in the movie made the first mistake of taking the four patients together for a vacation without involving any medical assistance to help him in the process. Therefore, the whole process was difficult to control because the psychiatrist left the four patients all alone as he attended an emergency medical treatment in the hospital (Barlow et al., 2016). The four patients were very dangerous and fragile to both themselves and the members of the public. However, the patients were neither supposed to be diagnosed with the same treatment as seen in the movie. Treating the patients with the same diagnosis will prompt a dangerous mental condition to the patients. Most of the patients suffering from mental health in healthcare are expected to be diagnosed with a separate medical treatment to prevent complications in the medical condition among the patients. In the film, the four patients later developed a mental related complication condition that affected their reaction and operations in the entire movie.

Patients suffering from related mental challenges should be awarded each doctor to treat and handle their condition to prevent it from escalating. The psychiatrist will closely monitor the patient and understand his or her strengths and weaknesses to prevent cases of over diagnosis (Barlow et al., 2016). Providing the right medication to the patient is the number one factor in solving the health problem. Therefore, psychiatrists should avoid errors in medical treatments to their patients. However, in this current error, psychiatrists are at the forefront of new interventions in treating related mental complications. In the movie Dream team, the psychiatrist forgets to provide the correct medication to his patients, making them create their medical operation, which is unique.

  1. Evidence-based Practices for Mental Ill Patients

Mental health is the current complicated health challenge that several patients are suffering from. However, the Psychiatrists are forced to create different and unique treatment plans to enhance the treatment of patients suffering from this complication. The best evidence-based practices that the healthcare providers need to incorporate include cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, functional family therapy, assertive community treatment, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and FDA-approved medicines (Barlow et al., 2016).

  1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:This is a highly effective treatment method for patients suffering from related mental complications. The CBT helps patients to uncover their complex relationships into feeding their thoughts, self-destructive behaviors and feelings (Barlow et al., 2016). This therapy treatment helps shape the positive influences in a person’s brain by changing the mentality of the patient and its surroundings.
  2. Exposure Therapy:This is a psychological treatment that helps a person confront his fears and develop confidence in him. The mentally ill patients diagnosed with this treatment will develop confidence and mental strength in fighting depression, fears and emotional issues.

iii. Functional Family Therapy: The treatment focuses on family-based prevention and intervention operations high-risk to the youths. It addresses multidimensional and complex related challenges in mental patients. The patient will understand his condition and follow the respective clinical related sessions in the healthcare practice.

Iv. Assertive Community Treatment: Assertive community treatment is a mental health program where an individual is treated to cope with the people in the community. In this treatment counseling, clinician and psychiatrists services are used in treating the patient.

  1. Dialectical Behavior therapy:It is a cognitive behavioral therapy where strategies such as mindfulness, emotion and acceptance have been used in preventing cases related to mental health (Brown & Barlow 2016). The However, most of the psychiatrists in this season will be able to work together with the patient to achieve the real cure to the complication at hand.
  2. Motivational Interviewing:Motivation is an essential measure in curing and treating mental health complications in healthcare. The psychiatrists, therefore, will impose measures in motivating the patients to be strong and vigilant as they are fighting the medical complication.

vii. FDA-Approved Medicines: All the patients are expected to take FDA approved medicines in reducing the effect of mental health. This method will boost the measure set aside in improving the mental conditions of the patients in healthcare.

  1. Length of Treatment

The length of treatment for mental ill-related patients in the healthcare centers. Some of the major challenges that affect mental conditions among the patients include depression, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The duration of treatment of mental health patients may vary depending on the type of the disease and nature of the treatment. However, the majority of the people taking mental health assistance may take a longer time during their treatment process before finding the right diagnosis process. Finding the right medication can take months, and finding the right therapists can take months (Barlow et al., 2016). A mentally ill patient has to undergo a series of treatments to find the right medication. Finding a cure to mental health complications can be tiresome and may take years to realize among the patients. However, several patients have registered a recurring mental condition, making it harder for psychiatrists to completely cure mental complications. Some of the complications, such as depression, can come and go, while other mental disorders may prevail for a longer period.

Most of the time, the medical professional do not predict the exact period in curing ADHD and depression complications among the patients.  The treatment of the mental disorder may take time and effort to fully cure (Barlow et al., 2016). The overall treatment of the mental health complications may take 3 to 4 months to complete the first treatment. According to the study conducted by the World Health Organization states that mental health is not cured. Still, the Patient is trained on the new ways to cope with the symptoms and the new conditions to help control the current medical condition. Therefore, patients are advised to follow effectively the procedures laid out by the health caregiver to prevent mental complications.

  1. Methods of Treating the Mental health

There are several methods that medical caregivers implement in providing quality treatment to their patients suffering from mental health complications. Psychotherapy is the main method that is recommended to patients suffering from related mental complications. However, trained mental health professionals are at the forefront of understanding the Patient’s mental condition and providing the recommended medical treatment in healthcare (Brown & Barlow 2016). The study done by the World Health Organization has stated that therapy is the number one treatment measure that should be used in controlling mental health complications. Medication is the second method process that needs to be used in solving cases of related mental threats among the patients. All mental acetified healthcares should therefore provide their patients with the recommended FDA accredited medication.

However, by following the procedure in the mental health medication process, most of the patients will be able to control complications related to the mental challenge.  Hospitalization plays an essential role in the curing of related mental complications in healthcare centers. Proper and modern hospitalization is essential in monitoring and diagnosing a patient in healthcare (Kring & Johnson, 2018). Support groups are a meeting where members can guide one another towards sharing the same goal in the Patient recovering and cure in the healthcare. The last essential method is the self-help plan, where an individual can address his or her condition and implement strategies to enhance the Patient’s wellness.

  1. The benefit of Evidence-based Practice to the Patient

There are several benefits that an evidence-based practice provides to a mentally ill patient. Patients are allowed to give their health proceedings and measures during the realization of the healthcare services. The patients are allowed to provide preferences and values as far as medical procedures are concerned. The Patient will therefore follow the following procedures to help in enhancing his or her mental health condition. EBP introduces several mental health cure measures that will help control the prevailing mental condition among the patients (Kring & Johnson, 2018). Some of the measures that the EBP has introduced among the mental health patients include cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, functional family therapy, assertive community treatment, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and FDA-approved medicines (Barlow et al., 2016).  The medical team introduces the mental health therapy measures are introduced by the medical team in controlling the prevailing impact of mental health problems among the patients.  Additionally, EBP has introduced different methods in handling related mental challenges in the healthcare system. However, some of the methods used in regulating the prevailing rate of mental illness include psychotherapy, medication, hospitalization, Support groups and self-help plan.

  1. Negative effect of EBBP to the Patient

There is a number of negative impacts of evidence-based practice on the patient. Some of the disadvantages of evidence-based practice include shortage of evidence to be used in healthcare, oversight of common sense; there is a high length of time and difficulty in seeking valid, credible evidence (Barlow et al., 2016). The evidence which is provided cannot be sufficient enough in providing a valid finding on a particular health complication.  The oversight and the common sense can be misleading, creating negative findings and results based on a particular health complication. Therefore this may affect the healthcare complication of the mental health patient.  Medical officers have a mandate to spearhead change in the collection and implementation of the findings in the healthcare sector.  The incompetency rate of the caregivers is another major factor to be considered in enhancing the quality and affordable health outcomes in the medical sector. Medical-related errors are the current threat to the quality and efficient healthcare practice.

  1. Psychiatrist Treatment

The psychiatrist uses different methods in realizing the health condition of their patients, such as psychotherapy, medication and psychosocial intervention treatments. In the film above, the four patients, therefore, require proper psychiatrist medical intervention in treating and curing related mental complications. The psychiatrist plays an essential role in establishing the right medication treatment for mentally ill patients in healthcare. There are a number of treatment measures that a psychiatrist offers to his patients, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, functional family therapy, assertive community treatment, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and FDA-approved medicines (Barlow et al., 2016). The medication that the psychiatrist will use is psychopharmacological in treating his patients in healthcare.

There are a number of negative impacts of a psychiatrist on the patients include the incompetency rate of the caregivers is another major factor to be considered in enhancing the quality and affordable health outcomes in the medical sector.  Psychiatrists, however, also need to possess the right skills and understanding of the measures to be taken in addressing the related mental threats to the patients.  All healthcare offering mental treatment offers should therefore ensure that they provide the right resources and medical team in handling cases of mental complications.

  1. The Character Impact

The character used in the film has greatly changed the narrative of the film outcome from one perspective to another. The four characters were suffering from mental health-related complications. However, as we continue to follow the flow of the story, we realize that the director places both of the characters in the same place. This idea made the whole movie lack proper flow since it projected a negative outlook in the movie. The psychiatrist was Dennis Boutsikaris, who was handling all the four men, and his main intention was to take them out for a vacation to relieve them from their mental stress. Billy was a violent, jazzed-up and fast-talking person; Henry was a more obsessive and professorial person (Kring & Johnson, 2018). Jack was more messianic tendencies, and Albert was more introverted and did not talk with people. The Journey began all well until Albert developed the need to answer the call of nature. Albert, on his way to the gas station washroom, committed a murder where he was rushed to the hospital, leaving the other patients on their own.
