Many mediators often look at solving significant debates or social dilemmas by focusing on non-zero-sum games.
Define what a non-zero-sum game is.
Describe a large social dilemma in terms of a non-zero-sum game and how one would create a win-win scenario where both parties win.
Group polarization is the phenomenon that occurs when a group engagement will enhance members’ preexisting tendencies and strengthening of the members’ average tendency. It is not about a split within the group. We have seen the effects of this within the last several elections within the United States.
Provide a relative example of this from recent events or from your workplace.
How do you overcome the negative effects of group polarization when there are very divided viewpoints on what’s right?
Should we continue to have national political debates during elections?
How would you recommend continuing the discussion or debate without the negative effects of group polarization?
Substantiate your opinion and include a supporting theory or concepts from the reading.
There are many constraints in decision making. An ideal decision-making scenario rarely exists.
What criteria should one use to determine whether a decision-making process is of high quality or not?
Given all these criteria, which criterion do you believe is the hardest to achieve when trying to implement a significant social regulation that impacts the larger population (e.g., health care regulation change)?
Substantiate your opinion and include a supporting theory or concepts from the reading.
Does power corrupt? Defend your answer. Provide a recent example in the news that justifies your argument. Substantiate your opinion and include a supporting theory or concepts from the textbook

Psychology Discussion Questions
Non-zero sum game is a condition where ones win does not certainly mean there is another’s loss and that one’s loss does not certainly mean the other party’s win (Okoro, Oghenekevwe and Oladejo, 2018). Therefore, the losses and wins of all players does not sum up to zero and everyone can gain (a win-win game). One large social dilemma is overexploitation of freshwater and international watersheds. A win-win scenario can be created through correcting the situation of overpopulation to create positive solution for animals, people and plants. For instance, despite the basic role as to the very reality of humans and their economies, the availability of clean water remains an issue across the sphere. Countries can create a win-win scenario through managing trans-boundary water resources and cooperative approaches that may benefit all countries that share a global lake or river.
Group polarization is the tendency that a group makes decisions and assume actions and attitudes that are more extreme that the initial arrangements or attitudes of the individual groups. Therefore, people end up having extreme opinions or views. Recently, there has been a discussion about nepotism in the workplace. Group polarization led to conservative individual getting new information during the discussion which changed their opinion and shift in their thinking (Proietti, 2017). The national political debates are effective since they assist the voters make informed decisions as well as change the focus of political candidates into policy issues and economic development. Encouraging others that do not side to be more active and creating forums for dialogue will eliminate the negative effects of group polarization. Group interaction is very effective in creating positive group polarization. Persuasive argument theory states that group induced response shifts happen since there are certain arguments that are not initially known by everyone in the group. During the discussion and interaction, the unshared arguments are introduced to group members that are not aware of them.
A decision making process should first identify the problem, gather relevant data, identify alternatives, weigh evidence and choose from the alternatives. Gathering relevant data is the most challenging criteria in decision making of a health care regulation change is gathering of relevant data. Entities within health care organizations face challenges when gathering data from respondents of different ethnicity, race and language.
Power does not corrupt but heightens the current ethical tendencies. Power reveals and amplifies a leaders predisposition traits. Power brings about pathological traits and a magnet to the corruptible. For instance, a democratic state man can decide to introduce a new healthcare bill to benefit the people or collaborate with pharmaceutical giants to strengthen his political power.
