ANSWER
Different Interpretations of Texts
Reading any text is a conversation between two people, the reader and the author. This communications process may differ from what the author intended to imply to what the reader understands. Different people interpret texts differently depending on several situations. For instance, the level of education may be a determining factor (Axelsson 3). High-grade students may find a deeper understanding and connection to a text, while another student with a lower education level may just read the bare minimum. In this case, students of the same level may interpret texts differently, mainly due to their worldviews and preconceived perspectives.
Reading a text with different worldviews from another person or the author may interpret a text differently. It usually is hard for the text to convince the reader otherwise from how he/she sees the text based on the worldviews (Axelsson 25). For instance, a conservative white person may read a text written by a black author on the struggles of economics, explicitly finding it hard to acquire a job. The reader may find this hard to believe and assume that black people typically find it hard to find employment because of their high incarceration rates and an accustomed use of foul language that may be detrimental to a formal workplace. On the other hand, a black reader may find the text relatable and interpret the text differently. In this case, both use their worldviews as the basis of understanding the text.
Texts may be interpreted differently depending on the perspectives of a reader. Perspectives are usually prompted by the background knowledge of the reader (Axelsson 25). Perspectives can be applied in the suffering of the narrator in “The Yellow Wallpaper.” One might interpret her suffering as to how her husband treats her by neglecting and telling her what to do. On the other hand, one may interpret that her suffering is no one to blame due to her underlying mental health condition, which may exaggerate her situation.
