Role of Engagement of Stakeholders Summary

Stakeholder engagement plays an essential role in successful capstone change proposal project implementation. Stakeholders include both external and internal stakeholders that play a significant role in the organization’s operations and performance and individuals affected by the initiatives undertaken in a healthcare setting. For this case, the important stakeholders include individuals with a vested interest in healthcare decisions and help in successfully implementing the evidence-based clinical project. The clinical project in question is focused on improving the identification of clinical depression among the elderly in-home health setting patients by 100 per cent. Therefore, PHQ-2 will be compared to GDS-15 to determine which is more effective in identifying clinical depression. The stakeholders will play varying roles in the decision-making process to improve clinical depression identification.

Stakeholders Involved

Stakeholder engagement is a principal element required in developing and implementing guidelines (Kujala et al., 2022). The major stakeholders for the clinical project include the patients, family members, care managers, clinicians and healthcare facility representatives. Each of these stakeholders is supportive of the project and has their personal needs that are important and linked to the clinical project. These needs are used to conduct comparisons before making decisions on implementing new experiences. Ideally, the intervention is expected to be a healthcare reform in home health settings that will require support for every stakeholder in different capacities. For instance, the patients must dutifully participate in the research as the primary sources of the clinical depression data. When the patients are considered as recipients rather than major stakeholders, the grounds for shared decision making cannot be achieved. The project will rely on the feedback of the family members, the patients and care managers.

Involving stakeholders such as healthcare facility representatives and clinicians will help gain insights into the most effective intervention in identifying clinical depression by 100 per cent. The family members are vital stakeholders since they contribute to decision making, assist in-home care and assist the healthcare team in providing care to the patients. The facility representatives and clinicians have skills and knowledge that can provide awareness of the subject of change. Focusing on the engagement of stakeholders ensures that the chosen approach has more value for stakeholders, both the home health setting and the direct care process (Boaz et al., 2018). The stakeholders are expected to have their individual needs, which can hinder or facilitate a particular approach compared to the other. Incorporating the needs in the examination of the most effective approach will bring a better connection between clinical depression identification and the care process.

Advocacy groups, policymakers and the facility executives will be interested in the project results. The health advocates play an essential role in minimizing the communication gap between the healthcare professionals and patients and are vital in improving health outcomes. The policymakers are an effective pathway to the implementation of an intervention. They are interested in the relevance of the evidence to drive change through policy. The healthcare executives are responsible for demonstrating guiding principles within the home health settings to strengthen integration and quality of care.

Promoting Stakeholder Participation

Promoting stakeholder participation entails involving them in the capstone project and having a shared understanding of the intended initiative. Clear and consistent communication plays a major role in promoting stakeholder participation. Information has to be shared consistently and purposefully to ensure that the external and internal stakeholder understand the importance of the initiative and their role in meeting the goals of the capstone change proposal (Pandi-Perumal et al., 2015). A relationship is key in promoting the participation of stakeholders. Where there is trust, the stakeholder is likely to work together more effectively and easily. Building an effective relationship will minimize challenges and uncertainty and speed up decision making.

Diverging expectations regarding identifying clinical depression was one of the major barriers to engaging service users and family members. Most patients might expect that the tests will involve treatment and medications. Therefore, stakeholders’ expectations were a major barrier to engaging in the interventions. A lack of shared vision or reciprocity among stakeholders creates a barrier. Time and availability of stakeholders also affect the engagement and participation of the stakeholders.

Strategies Used to gain support and assistance from your stakeholders.

Managing their expectations plays a vital role in continued stakeholders’ engagement (Freeman et al., 2017). Managing their expectations allows for common ground and definition of the deliverables and maintains the project’s focus. Ensuring that the stakeholders understand the positive and negative effects of the idea will boost their support since they understand why the idea is important. Communicating consistently will increase their support since they understand the process and intention of the project. Communication will eliminate surprises and ambiguities since the stakeholders are engaged throughout the process (Pellecchia et al., 2022). Being proactive and transparent without assuming that they are key decision-makers promotes their support. The key stakeholders have to be updated on the project since they get anxious when they lack updates on what is happening.

Stakeholder engagement is effective in the success of the capstone project. Different stakeholders have varying needs that can be met through understanding the stakeholders. The stakeholders in this capstone project are expected to offer support and assistance since the intervention improves the quality of care. Therefore, there is a need to focus on systematic identification, planning, analysis and implementation of actions that influence the stakeholder to support the capstone project.
