Abstract

Emirate Airline Company was established in 1985 in the United Arab Emirates and part of the Emirate Group owned by Dubai’s government. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Emirate Airline operated more than 3300 flights a week both passenger and cargo making it one of the largest airlines in the world with a growth rate of more than 20% annually (Al Shurideh 2019). One crucial area that has enabled the success of the airline in the are of managing information, in cooperation with Dnata which is a branch of the Emirate Group responsible for all the services that are required in an airline. This paper takes note of the various information systems implemented by Emirate Airline in the area of human resources, sales, and marketing, customer service, reservations, maintenance, or operations which has been a contributor to the competitive advantage of the company with regards to its competitors.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Information Systems Application In Emirate Airline Company

Emirate Airline has collaborations with technology development firms such as Microsoft and HP. The collaboration resulted in the development and implementation of an information system referred to as the Knowledge In-flight Service (KIS) which is vital to the operations of the company (Al Shurideh 2019). One way the system facilitates this is by enhancing communication between different parties, for instance, customers are able to receive information faster about flights, changes and requirements, employees are able to respond to customers concerns and management is able to pass information to subordinates effectively. It is an all-inclusive system designed to provide all the fundamentals of air travel in one place. In sales and marketing, the system comprises a review system where customers are able to rate their flights and services as well as leave comments on improvements which is vital in asserting customer satisfaction.

Availability of data in secured databases has also improved customer interaction with the system as well as information security. For instance, an autofill system maintains data from a customer such that he or she does not have to fill it in every single time. Similarly, new hardware and software tools designed to ensure the integrity, confidentiality and availability of data has been applied to include data backups that ensure business continuity after any vulnerability is exploited by an attacker (Nataraja 2011).

Additionally, the company also includes a mobile application to run on mobile phones and tablets that make a booking or cancelling of flights at the convenience of anywhere provided there is an internet connection. This is opposed to the initial system where a customer needed a computer to book a flight which often proved tedious and inconvenient.

Conclusion

The Emirate Group aware of the role of technology to any organisation in the world in this age ensures that all systems are updated regularly with bug fixes and adaptation of new technologies. As flight travel becomes more and more popular, the airline understands that the duty lies in the proper service of customers by providing the best.
