Proponents argue that if children receive sex education, they are better positioned to make quality decisions when faced with a sex issue at hand. This practice can assist young people in promoting sexually healthy behaviors (Krebbekx, 2019). Thus, standardizing sexual education creates room for appropriate behavior change among learners. Also, standardization will pave the way to myth elimination while offering learners factual and medical knowledge about sex. Notably, sexual education accelerates the reduction of sexually transmitted infections and fewer unintended pregnancies. When learners are impacted with sexual knowledge, they learn to make quality choices. However, opponents claim that sexual education creates curiosity, students should not be learning about this topic in school, and religion calls for abstinence, thus ruling the impact of sex education in the school setting. Overall, sexual education standardization can potentially help learners to make quality decisions, deconstruct sex myths, and avoid exposure to sexually transmitted infections. It, however, makes students curious, challenges the religious foundation of abstinence, and views that learners should be studying other crucial subjects and not sexual education in the school setting.

Conclusion

Sexual education remains a controversial topic across various schools due to religious differences that support different values. Even though learners can make excellent decisions, deconstruct sex myths, and avoid exposure to sexually transmitted diseases after undergoing sexual education, they are also prone to curiosity. Notably, students should not be learning about sexual education in school as it challenges abstinence, a virtue that is primarily upheld by religion. The responsibility of ensuring that children avoid early sexual encounters lies with the community as a whole. Parents, teachers, and religious leaders should pass valuable sexual education to young people. In some of the learning institutions, school principals might decline the standardization of sexual education due to their religion. The involvement of parents and other community members comes in handy to educate and train children about sexual education. Exposing children to sexual education an overall responsibility of the community (Plastino et al., 2017). Various parties come together to ensure that children receive sexual education. Thus, interested parties should portray a willingness to participate in multiple initiatives that target learners to gain insights into sexual education. School principals should facilitate in-depth discussions focusing on standardizing sexual education. If the religious values and practices cultivated in the schools allow, they can move ahead and standardize sexual education.
