SOCIOLOGY

Sociology is the study of groups of life, their social life and changes, cultures, practices, social causes and consequences of their behaviour. In this post, we will focus on the Sociology of Gender and Sexuality.

Sociology of Gender and Sexuality.

The main reason for focusing on the Sociology of Gender and Sexuality is because men and women have always been opposite in the society which has resulted to inequalities. First the gender inequality in job occupation and income, most men get the high paying jobs and have greater chances of occupying the leadership positions at the work places compared to women who always earn less compared to men even when the work is the same

Sexual harassment is a form of violence against any human being and it still manages to make headlines almost every day in our societies. Even though men are harassed, women are more often the targets of sexual harassment this is because women are still considered sex objects for men’s pleasure. In addition, women are also sexually abused at their workplaces by those in higher position either for their salaries to be increased or even to get a promotion.

Moreover, women of colour are faced with triple the burden of inequality because of how they are perceived in the society. This is because of their race and social class which is at most times at the bottom of the social economic ladder. Thus they experience extra low income inequality compared to men and even the white women.

The main theory to use in this topic in the conflict approach theory which focuses on social inequalities. It explain why the society is always in constant conflict either because the minority exploit the majority at the expense of the majority bringing in inequalities.
