Global Gender Gap Report
The gender gap affects the growth and development of countries. Gender party has a major effect on whether or not societies and economies thrive. The Global gap report is designed to offer awareness about the challenges that the gender gaps lead to as well as the opportunities that arise when actions to lower gender inequality are taken (Mehdi, 2020). This paper will focus on a comparison of gender gap inequality in Germany and China.
Pay Rate
In Germany, women earned an average of 19 percent lower than men which indicates earning differences between women and men (Mehdi, 2020). The statistics indicate that in 2020, women in China earn 81 cents for every dollar that a man earns. The gender wage gap in china has been disadvantageous to women as indicated in state-owned ad privately owned enterprises. The average wage for Chinese urban men is 22.5 percent higher than women’s which shows a continued decrease over the last three years (Mehdi, 2020). The gender gap rate in China is higher in rural areas as compared to urban regions.
Types of Employment for Males and Females
Types of employment in Germany have still been influenced by the institutional framework which remains inconsistent and ambiguous as regards the role of women. The highest percentage of women have been involved in occupations or professions linked to home economics, education, theology, and medical health care. On the other hand, men have been involved in sectors such as manufacturing, the service sector, electrical engineering, and the agricultural sector. The leadership positions in the economy are still preserved for men while there is one woman for every five men in the leadership position roles. In 2020, there has been an increase in new female entrepreneurs that have engaged in emerging industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, and e-commerce.
The Status of Women in The Country
Underrepresentation of women in leadership positions and gender roles remains a challenge. The majority of women have worked in areas that focus on education and care for families. However, female breadwinning has also gained acknowledgment in Germany due to new gender roles. Even though China has continuously been successful in achieving greater gender parity, it is evident that women are still suffering a minor status as compared to men. Women have been allowed to enjoy equal rights as men in economic, political, and labor force participation.
In summation, it is clear that women are still underrepresented in the labor market and income arrangements in both countries. Most leadership, economic and political positions are still held by men in both China and Germany. However, China has shown efforts to close the gender gap to shape the new society and economy.
