The use of art-based approach in contemporary research continues to gain momentum and regard as a critical feature to expand the understand of any subject. In this aspect, the use of art-based approach in research is essential as it impacts on understanding, knowledge expansion, representation and illustration of what the topic is about through creation of pictorial indications, and appeal to the feels and empathy of the learners. This makes research more appealing and connecting to its audience as art-based research enables the audience to create a connection to the content of the research. The use of art-based approach in research inspires engagement and connection to the study (Wang, Coemans, Siegesmund & Hannes, 2017).

Gerber, Bryl, Potyin and Blank (2018) asserts that the use art-based approach in research “elicits the expression of the most profound experiences, construct personal narratives, and enhance self-awareness within a carefully constructed and emotionally held relationship.” Arts-based approach in research provides a systematic inquiry to the subject of study that is critical to knowledge building and expansion. Arts-based approach in research impacts on both qualitative and quantitative studies through enhancing the capacity to imagination and expression of emotional connection to the subject. The most profound challenge of using arts-based approach in research entails the ability to prove the scientific context of the research. This is to certify the authenticity and accuracy of the data used in the artistic presentation of the study subject. This posits a profound difficult for the researcher to create a scientific connection to the art itself and the subject of study. Hence, revolutionary measures and expansion into ways of making arts-based approach more progressive and acceptable in research is essential to making the approach more effective.
