ANSWER
Effects of Industrialization on the Family Structure
The rise of industrialization changed from a production unit to a consumption unit. The family unit change started causing a decline in the productivity of relationships between spouses and parents, and children. The change in these relationships occurred gradually due to varied occupations and social classes (Muhammad et al., 2018). People continued to have large families through the nineteenth century, and women continued to have children from marriage every two years through to age forty. Most works did not limit the family size as children had an economic contribution to the family. Infant mortality rates also remained high. The drop in fertility and change that occurred during industrialization has led to many changes in the family unit.
The big families that used to exist in the past are no longer in existence in the modern world industrialization led to the development of social classes, which further led to the families having to have fewer children to fit within the economic times. The family system has continued to decline since industrialization with the rise of divorce and one-parent families. There is also the rise of children free couples, which has further affected the family system (Chodorow, 2018). The family will become extinct because people would rather remain alone and not have children due to the rise of social classes. Women are also more empowered in the industrial society, and they no longer focus on getting married and having children only. Women want to follow their careers and dreams, and most of them find the concept of having a family and children limiting to their dreams and career goals. The rise of industrialization greatly undermined the concept of family, and in the near future, the family system will go extinct.
