Effective workforce planning and policy-making demands improved data collection and information structure. Data collection and information structure have improved evidence-based practices among nurses in the United States hence a more informed nursing workforce has been developed to increase health outcomes. For example, laws have been enacted in various states to prioritize evidence-based practice as a way of increasing health outcomes.

State action coalitions drive change locally by coordinating with other stakeholders to transform healthcare through nursing and establishing healthier communities. The action coalition has set up cooperation strategies with other professionals in the state to ensure food banks provide healthy foods to the most vulnerable members of the community. The health eating initiative ensures that nurses are focused on better outcomes by addressing root causes of diseases via public education and inter-professional cooperation.
Barriers to Advancement That Currently Exist in The State of Texas
Nurses in Texas face a major barrier concerning their ability to practice independently. Nurses in Texas are only permitted to practice under the supervision of physicians within a 74-mile radius. Nurses are therefore not fully equipped to offer their services without the supervision of physicians. Nurses in Texas are restricted in that they can only prescribe drugs under the supervision of a physician. Also, they are not allowed to prescribe schedule two drugs like Adderall. Nurses are also not allowed to sign death certificates in Texas. Nurses in my state obtain special licenses to practice in certain sections of the state without the mandatory need for physician supervision. Nurse advocates have also lobbied lawmakers to enact special legislation that grants nurses more autonomy hence protecting them from the barriers that limit their practice (Peterson, 2017).
