PICOT: Substituting a Blunt Tip Cannula for a Hypodermic Needle to Inject Dermal Filler in Order to Provide Increased Patient Comfort and Less Bruising
The Abdellah’s Model
Abdellah’s Model utilizes a problem-solving technique for solving nursing problems. The theoretical framework identifies twenty-one issues to attain or maintain social, psychological, and physical balance (Atefeh, Parivash & Parisa, 2020). Besides, Abdellah’s Model is patient-centered where nurses should identify and solve problems. Therefore, the theory requires nurses to help patients realize their needs via problem-solving techniques. Patients’ needs are determinable after examining conditions, severity, and nature of problems (Atefeh, Parivash & Parisa, 2020). Then, the patients can be offered high-quality and patient-centered health care.
According to Abdellah’s Model, nursing molds nurses’ intellectual competencies, technical skills, and attitudes of nurses into the ability and desire to help individuals, well or sick ready for health requirements (Current Nursing, 2020). In addition, the theoretical framework regards nursing as a comprehensive service entailing recognition of patients’ nursing problems, deciding the right action course, offering continued care, and adjusting the nursing plan to realize patients’ needs. Then, individuals require help to be self-directing to have or maintain healthy bodies and minds. Besides, the Model requires family and nursing personnel to help persons adjust to and overcome their limitations (Current Nursing, 2020). Furthermore, Abdellah’s Model requires inter-professional health care working relationships. The theory also advocates for continuous research and evaluation to enhance health care provision.
Abdellah’s Model is primarily on needs. The theory is branch able into three categories: problem solving, nursing problems, and health (Atefeh, Parivash & Parisa, 2020). According to the Model, nursing is a science and art that helps people cope with the requisite health requirements through various aspects. Health refers to a dynamic functioning pattern with continuous interaction with external and internal forces (Atefeh, Parivash & Parisa, 2020). The theory relates to the project in that patient-centered health care is instrumental in ensuring less bruising and increased patient comfort.
Research Approach
The research proposal will use the exploratory approach. Through the exploratory approach, the researcher will promote the theory-informed practice and knowledge development. In addition, Abdellah’s Model will help comprehend how substituting the blunt tip cannula for the hypodermic needle to inject dermal filler compares to providing less bruising and patient comfort. An exploratory approach helps explore the effects of a hypodermic needle to inject dermal filler compared to the blunt tip cannula to ensure less bruising and patient comfort.
The research setting is a cosmetic medical office with females and males aged 20-80 years.
The study will occur in two months. Further, the research will utilize an exploratory design to examine two interventions’ effects in increasing patients’ safety, less bruising, and comfort using a survey and a 1-10 pain scale.
Nature of the Abdellah’s Model
The model lends itself to both the qualitative and quantitative methods. Therefore, the model can be applied for guiding quantitative open-ended questionnaires content analysis as well as qualitative approaches. In quantitative terms, the pain scale will guide the level of patients’ safety, bruising, and comfort.
Qualitative/Quantitative Methods
The appropriate qualitative techniques would be interviews and pre/post-tests. Individuals will be injected with dermal filler using a blunt tip cannula and hypodermic needle and conduct the study for two months. The participants undergoing the process will answer pre/post-tests and be interviewed during their process. Verbal participants’ informed consent is vital from these individuals before interviews. With the individuals’ demographics and clinical data, they will be assessed for the level of comfort and bruising. The 1-10 pain scale will help determine the pain level.
Evaluating the Research Project using the Abdellah’s Model
Abdellah’s Model will help evaluate the project by observing people’s responses to patient-centered care using a blunt tip cannula and a hypodermic needle. Patient-centered care occurs when people experience less bruising and high comfort (Devgan, Singh & Durairaj, 2019). Besides, patient-centered care will help reduce the pain level by comparing the effects of the blunt tip cannula and a hypodermic needle (Atefeh, Parivash & Parisa, 2020). With Adbellah’s Model, nursing will ensure participants’ needs are met by providing patient-centered care. Nursing will focus on lessening bruising and increasing comfort.
Furthermore, Abdellah’s Model enables nurses to see their roles as the science and art geared towards helping patients attain their health requirements (Atefeh, Parivash & Parisa, 2020). The Abdellah’s Model also works for the project in that it aims to enhance safety via prevention of injury, trauma, and accident as well as preventing infection spread. In addition, the model applies to the project in that it aims at correcting and preventing deformity and maintaining proper body mechanics (Atefeh, Parivash & Parisa, 2020). Through inter-professional collaboration, the individuals receive the appropriate and patient-centered care.
The aspects of the model that do not work well include its strong nurse-centered inclination. The model conceptualizes nurses’ actions regarding nursing care (Gonzalo, 2021). In addition, the model may focus on providing patient-centered care at the expense of other factors like the welfare of nurses and budgetary constraints.
