Opinion on District-Based Delegates in the House of Representatives
The district-based representatives, commonly referred to as congressmen or congresswomen, are elected by the people at the congressional district level. The elections take place after every two years, and the roles of these delegates are primarily to serve the people of the United States (Ahler & Broockman, 2018). They have certain roles and responsibilities and, in my opinion, are fundamental to the development of our nation. For instance, one of their roles in the House of Representatives is introducing bills and resolutions in congress. Through these bills, they voice the concerns and proposals of the people who elected them. In a sense, this bridges the gap between the people and the national government regarding serving them diligently. Through these bills, the people’s concerns are well represented for certain amends to be made.
My representative is Danny K. Davis, who runs under the Democratic Party and represents the 7th congressional district. He has been fundamental in airing the concerns of the state of Chicago as he represents various districts such as Bellwood, Chicago, Forest Park, Oak Park, Maywood, and Westchester. While in the House of Representatives, various concerns like police brutality, gang affiliation incidence have been addressed and brought calm and safety to its residents.
