Why music is harmful

I have attached the outline and the instruction but it should have 3 solid reasons to fully develop “my side” of the argument(which is why music is harmful). Also be sure that you acknowledge the other side of the argument…something like…Some feel that classical music helps with study habits or concentration…however (insert research here that disproves that)

Why Music is Harmful

Music occupies every part of one’s life. It is involved in almost all dimensions of life. Music is how one starts learning from when they are a child. Almost everybody in the world learned the alphabets in the form of a song. It also occupies spiritual rituals, it is how people relax, and it is also used as a form of comfort when people are depressed. There is even research that is being conducted to determine the positive effects of music on patients in the intensive care unit. When one searches the internet, they can only see the positives of music. However, there is a darker side to music. Music influences our mood and behavioral patterns, and thus if one listens to aggressive music, they are likely to become more aggressive. Therefore, music has a negative effect as it wields so much power over the human brain that it can control how they behave or feel.

Music has so much power that it can influence young people to behave violently if it has negative connotations. According to an article on CNN, there has been research conducted in the UK on the effects of drill music, which is characterized by threatening lyrics, encourages and increases the rate of crime among the youth (Avramona). It is made worse by the fact that it can be widely shared on social media, and thus, many young people are influenced by the music to join violent behavioral patterns. It is interesting how music holds so much power that it influences one’s thoughts and behavioral patterns. The power it holds to the human brain such that one can move from being sad and feeling alone to being happy and alive can also be used negatively. A peace-loving person can easily turn violent and aggressive because of the power wielded by music.

Music can make one spiral into sadness and can even lead to depression. People who frequently listen to sad songs are always going to feel sad. They have a negative point of view on life because of the songs they listen to every day. When one is sad, and they listen to sad music, they are likely to feel sadder and quickly fall into a pattern of depression. They will empower their sad emotions to become more dominant, and thus their never-ending thoughts of sadness will occupy their minds for a long time (Clark). When such people are told that they should stop listening to sad music, they argue that it makes them feel better, while in reality, it makes them feel worse, and there are chances of them slipping into depression due to the sadness.

Some people argue that music has more positive effects and that it can help people study and it can also help calm a child down. This is true. However, it is important to understand that music is a double-edged sword. The power it has to make a person feel cheerful and happy can also be used to sink a person deep into depression. It is as harmful as it is helpful. The current musical trends have affected the way young people view life. Contemporary music encourages violence, detachment from one’s emotions, and selfishness. This has led to the younger generation failing in relationships due to the lessons learned from the music.

Music wields too much power over the human brain, and thus the power can be used negatively. It is easy for one to get sucked into the dark side of music as it sounds cooler and trendy. Music has the power to influence violence, and thus, despite having positives, it is harmful if used wrongfully.
